Union, New Jersey


Union is a township located in northern Union County which is bordered by Hillside, Elizabeth, Roselle Park, Roselle, Kenilworth, Springfield, Millburn, and Maplewood.  With approximately 56,700 residents, Union has an area of 9 square miles.  Union has a large transportation infrastructure with access to the Garden State Parkway, Interstate 78, and U.S. Route 22.  Union Station located on Green Lane offers access to Newark Penn Station via the Raritan Valley Line.  Union is home to Kean University’s campus which has more than 16,000 enrolled students.  In 2008, CNN’s Money Magazine ranked Union number 75 out of 100 in its “America’s Best Places to Live.”

Union’s Neighborhoods:

Five Points:

One of Union’s commercial districts, Five Points offers a mix of shopping, dining, and entertainment options for its residents.  The properties located in the residential area include colonials, cape-cods, and split-levels.  Five Points is the home to Irene Hoppe Park which features a baseball field, basketball court, and playground.

Brookside Heights:

This quiet area of Union is home to a mix of charming colonials and cape-cods.  Conveniently located, Brookside Heights has easy access to Route 22 and the Garden State Parkway.

Union Center:

Union Center is Union’s main commercial district.  This lively area offers its residents a range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options to choose from.

Putnam Manor:

Considered Union’s most prestigious neighborhood, Putnam Manor is home to a mix of properties.  The quiet tree-lined streets of Putnam Manor feature properties ranging from colonials to new constructions.

Putnam Ridge:

This quiet area of Union had many tree-lined streets with a variety of property types including colonials, split-levels, and some new constructions.  Putnam Ridge is home to the Suburban Golf Club which was included in The Star Ledger’s top 10 golf courses in New Jersey.

Green Lane:

This area located near Kean University is perfect for commuters.  While the Green Lane section has both residential and commercial zones, the residential zone boasts a range of properties including colonials and cape-cods.  Recently there have been new condominium developments built near the Union train station offering commuters easy access to New York Penn Station via the Raritan Valley Line.

Fairway Drive:

Tucked away in a quiet area, Fairway Drive is one of Union’s most desirable neighborhoods.  The homes in this neighborhood include colonials and split-levels.  Also located in Fairway Drive is a gated community of townhouses named “The Pointe.”  Fairway Drive is the home to Galloping Hill Park and Golf Course which is considered one of the most challenging courses in the area.


Centrally located in Union, the Kawameeh neighborhood has easy access to Union’s commercial districts including Union Center and Five Points.  The properties in this quiet neighborhood include colonials, split-levels, and cape-cods.  This area is the home to Kawameeh Park with activities including a baseball field, basketball court, soccer field, tennis courts, and a playground.

Battle Hill:

This historical area of Union boasts a range of properties including colonials, split-levels, and cape-cods.  The tree-lined streets offer a quiet setting with easy access to the Five Points commercial district.

Elizabeth River:

This small neighborhood is located in the eastern end of Union with properties including colonials and split-levels.  Recreation is available at the Elizabeth River Park with baseball fields and lots of open space.

Connecticut Farms:

Located between the Fairway Drive and Kawameeh neighborhoods, this small section of Union has properties ranging from colonials to split-levels.  Connecticut Farms is a short distance from Union Center offering easy access to the commercial district. 

Orchard Park:

Located in the northern end of Union, Orchard Park contains a mix of colonials and cape-cods.  Located near Union Center, this section of Union offers its residents easy access to shopping and transportation.
